Arundel Instrumental Music
Association
– AIMA is the band boosters who support all groups. General
Membership meetings are held each month during the school year.
Groups available for
participation
– Marching/Concert Band, Orchestra, Brass Ensemble, Percussion
Ensemble, Jazz Band (by invitation of the band director) and Indoor
Guard.
Financial Obligation–
There is a participation fee for participating in the Arundel
Instrumental Music after school program. The fee is set along with
the annual budget in the first AIMA General Membership meeting in
September. The fee is based on if the student participates in one
or multiple groups.
Spring Trip – All groups attend a music
competition in the spring. This competition is usually out of
state. The band director sets the location each year. The date is
usually the beginning of May, but is dependent on school testing
dates that also occur around this time of year. In the past, trips
have included Myrtle Beach, Atlanta, Orlando and Virginia Beach.
Full payment of the participation fee is required to attend the
trip.
Uniforms
–
Marching Band
- student are fitted for a uniform that is on load from AIMA.
The cost of dry cleaning the uniform is paid for by AIMA. The
uniform is not to leave the school premises unless it is during
a TOB or for a school function. Black marching shoes are
required for purchase by the students.
All Other Groups – students are required to purchase and
wear the attire set by the band director. This usually includes
black slacks and white long sleeve shirt with a tie for the
gentlemen.
Attendance - The ArundelHigh
School after school music program meets right after school, during
the week. The band is involved in marching activities for
approximately the first nine weeks of the fall semester. Students
must attend Band Camp which is held at Arundel High School in order
to be eligible to participate in fall performances. We highly
recommend and encourage students who take a Band class at Arundel to
participate in the after school activities in order to receive the
total aesthetic enrichments of the music experience. In addition to
the activities outlined above, all groups perform at county, state,
and national events such as festivals, parades, concerts, music
tours, and music contests. Music experiences are rich and varied in
order to develop your son/daughter to a high level of proficiency on
his/her instrument. Student self esteem is enhanced. The total team
effort to music performance is developed over and beyond the class
room experience. Students who do not wish to have this extended
music experience may continue to take any class in music.
Instruments - School owned instruments
such as tubas, baritones, french horns, bass clarinets, tenor
saxophones and percussion equipment are assigned to students when
available. Students are required to keep all instruments in good
playing condition.
Music - Each
student is issued band sheet music and other instructional materials in
a folder. (A class music text book is included). The music teacher may
add or delete these materials as students master certain music skills.
