Color Guard Director for Arundel High School

Melissa McCubbin

Figure 1

During the Fall, Color Guard as we know it, is a beautiful sport that combines dance, athleticism, and performance skills and pairs it with the live music of a marching band. The guard uses flags, rifles, sabers and any other thing they can learn to spin to show off these skills. The guard and band come together to display a fully integrated show with color, props, costumes, equipment and movement on a football field. The Arundel Band is a highly competitive unit and along with the guard, has won 100’s of awards both locally and nationally. After football season, the guard then moves on to the Indoor Guard Arena. This is where the guard gets to express themselves with modern music to more theatrical themes and ideas. During all this, they get to march in numerous parades and extra performances both in the school and locally.
